Welcome to South Somerset Partnership School

SSPS provides education for young people across South Somerset who are unable to access their mainstream school. This may be for social and emotional reasons, for medical or mental health reasons, or because they have been Permanently Excluded. We strive to ensure our students are not disadvantaged, and continue to work tirelessly to ensure that their academic outcomes and long term life chances are not unduly affected by attending a PRU for part of their education.

Our vision remains strong; in the words of the poet Maya Angelou:

‘My vision is not that you survive, but that you thrive with passion, compassion, humour and style’

Our most recent Ofsted was in May 2018, and we were pleased with the result of this visit. Highlights for me include:

“You make sure that expectations are high. Lessons are about learning and trying your best. The learning environment is filled with positive prompts and messages to pupils.”

“You expect learning to be interesting, relevant and fun. As a result, pupils learn to apply their skills while doing practical activities that they enjoy.”

I believe, these quotes demonstrate our absolute commitment to ensuring all our pupils are able to access a high quality education, regardless of what has gone before.

‘Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility’

Our school recognises that the safety and welfare of children and young people is paramount and that we all have a responsibility to protect them from harm. We understand that it is the responsibility of all staff and governors to safeguard children and young people. We take all reasonable steps to ensure, through appropriate procedures and training, that all children and young people, irrespective of gender, age, disability, race, religion or belief, sexual identity or social background, are protected from harm.

Our front garden make-over is underway. Students wrote to Mole Valley Farmers who donated £450 of materials. Students and staff planned and built the raised beds, ready for the vegetables that are being grown to be planted out. Our very grateful thanks to #molevalleyfarmers

Congratulations to our Year 11 students whose short stories have been selected for publication in the ‘Young Writers Anthology’. Well done!

Students at SSPS did some fantastic work last week for Children’s Mental Health week – they designed their own t shirts and took part in some really positive work around mental health.
